GENseng is the Asian American student performance ensemble at the State University of NY in Geneseo, NY where we have been in continuous production for twenty years. We are the only one of our kind in the entire 64-campus SUNY system. The ensemble is embedded in the academic theatre program as students actors, technicians, designers, and directors receive academic credit for their work presenting plays by Asian American playwrights. We began in 1999 with a production of Ralph Peña's Flipzoids, and we are marking our 20th anniversary with Lee Cataluna's Da Mayah in 2019. In between we have presented work by Elizabeth Wong, Philip Kan Gotanda, Rick Shiomi, Marjorie Chan, Cheryelene Lee, Jeannie Barroga, Lauren Yee, and many other distinguished dramatists. Although Asian Americans make up only about 8% of the students on our 5200 student campus, our policy is never, ever to cast yellow face. We are deeply proud of our students' post-undergraduate professional successes in all avenues of endeavor. Please visit our FaceBook page, GENseng Geneseo, to see our photos and give us a "Like"!
