 The 2018 CAATA ConFest Mid-Week Plenary, August 16th, 2018, Chicago, Illinois 

This Mid-week Plenary features Rajiv Joseph, playwright, and Laura Penn, Executive Director of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Union (SDC) with a panel of distinguished Asian/Pacific Islander Stage Directors. The Plenary was opened by CAATA Board Members, Leslie Ishii and Meena Natarajan. Current CAATA Board President and SDC member Victor Malana Maog served as emcee and introduced CAATA’s featured guests, Rajiv Joseph and Laura Penn. Laura introduces prominent panelists, May Adrales, Chay Yew, Tim Dang, Mei Ann Teo, and Jess McLeod.

From his unique vantage point, award-winning playwright Rajiv Joseph gives voice to the extraordinary journey that made him into a writer and storyteller. His resilience and commitment to storytelling built his playwriting career and affirms us all as Pan Asian/Pacific Islander/Indigenous artists.

Discussion to follow with a dynamic panel of storytellers and stage directors on the current American theater landscape: the many senior and executive leadership openings, building a movement for greater visibility, access, and equity, diversity, inclusion best practices.
