Cara Hinh
I'm a mixed Asian-American, fat, queer, femme director, educator, and collaborator originally from Indiana.
I'm the daughter of a Vietnamese refugee and a southern Baptist Appalachian- I'm drawn to stories of diaspora and creating a bridge between otherness and belonging. From the crossroads of America to standing in the crossroads of my identity.
I want to create work that expands the American identity beyond monoliths. I do theatre because it holds ritual- it allows us to inhabit the present and conjures our future and past.
I am currently directing in the new play festival at UCLA, a member of the second class of the Roundabout Directors Group, and was recently a directing apprentice at Actors Theatre of Louisville. Before that, I was the SDC Observer on Hadestown with Rachel Chavkin, the learning and social accountability fellow at Baltimore Center Stage, and a founding member of the Asian Pasifika Arts Collective.
I'm also an animal lover and a five-star dogsitter.
