Shyla L. Salas

Hello, everyone!
My name is Shylah Salas. I am originally from the beautiful island of Guam and have been residing in Houston, Texas for the past 11 years.

In Houston, I continue my passion as a performance artist. My work features a variety of performance art featured in local festivals, private and reputable venues, workshops, and public offerings/shows. Although I am no newbie to performance art/theatre; within my holistic community, I am best known as a "Butoh Dancer". Butoh is the Japanese "movement meditation", a spiritual dance, a ritual, an offering. Those who know its history are aware it is defined as "The Dance of Darkness". Butoh was founded by its honorable founding fathers, Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno in the late 1950's as a reaction against Western influences in Japanese culture after the Second World War.

Since stepping into my first workshop, my love for Butoh, movement meditation, and passion for performance art continues to guide my mind, body, and Spirit into horizons, realms, and mystics I only imagined.
